In the age of rapid development of techniques and technology, digitalization and processes intellectualization, it is necessary to implement new managerial methods. Technologies, which experts consider the most promising, are associated with the concept of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Industrial revolutions basically comprise the development of the productive forces, so the Fourth Industrial Revolution is associated with the Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual production, Big Data, Integration of RFID systems into Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) systems, Intelligent production and Cyber Physical Systems. These concepts and technologies will ensure a sustainable interaction of processes in the production, logistics and service systems.
Transport is traditionally a strategic priority for the geopolitical, social and economic development of every country. It is an essential part of the industrial and social infrastructure, and its sustainability and efficient functioning is a necessary condition for the economy development, ensuring national safety and raising the population living standard. Effective transportation system is the necessary condition for the international trade development. Therefore, today’s new trends in the industry cannot be fully implemented without changing transport and logistics systems all over the world.
Transport, in addition, is a key sector in the context of energy and environmental safety. Today, there is the need to ensure the priorities of environmental friendliness of transport, which is one of the main environmental pollutants and consumers of irreplaceable natural resources. These problems are solved on the basis of applying the principles of sustainable development, which now constitute the basis of the transport policy of many countries of the world.
Development of technology in the era of Sustainable Development Goals implementation and rational resources consumption led to the formulation and new concept of economic development – the circular economy. This concept changes the paradigm of logistics processes organization, where reverse logistics, along with direct supply chains, becomes one of the elements of logistics chains. To ensure the efficiency of transport and related technological operations during the goods movement, new technologies are used at all stages of transportation. The transition to the fourth industrial revolution, the concepts of digitalization and the IoT cannot be implemented without sustainable logistics. The application of new technologies and digitalization of processes will allow us to move to the concept of Logistics 4.0.
According to the Global Industry Analysis and Forecast research, introduction of the eco-friendly technical and technological systems into the automotive industry, will create an opportunity to reduce the consumption of raw materials by 98%; to save 83% of energy; decrease the cost of finished products up to 40% and carbon dioxide emissions up to 87%.
